Welcome, Mr. Wes Brooks!
This is my 13th year in education, and I love helping students build confidence, especially in math! I completed the Teachers of Promise (TOPS) program during the 2025–2026 school year and am currently continuing my education at Auburn University. I earned my master's degree from the University of Montevallo and my bachelor's degree from Samford University.
When I'm not at school, you can usually find me spending time with my two boys, William (9) and James (5), or enjoying life on our cattle farm in Clay County, Alabama. I'm grateful to do what I love every day and look forward to another great year of learning and growing in this new role at IVES!
Our History
Indian Valley Elementary School is a public elementary school in Sylacauga, Alabama. It was originally built in 1981, with additions in 1990 and 2003. During the summer of 2001, major renovations were made to the original building, dividing open classrooms into closed classrooms. In 2012 a new gymnasium was added as a result of the one mil tax passed in 1993.
Currently our school is comprised of grades pre-kindergarten through second. Prior to the school year 2006-07, Indian Valley Elementary School served students in grades kindergarten to fifth. Indian Valley Elementary School has been fully accredited by our regional accrediting association, SACS, since 1973. (First accredited as Main Avenue Elementary School, this was replaced by Indian Valley Elementary School.)
The city of Sylacauga is located forty-five miles southeast of Birmingham and sixty-five miles north of Montgomery. According to our 2010 Census, Sylacauga has a population of 12,749. The percentage of residences with school age children is approximately 25%.
The racial composition of the community is predominantly white (66.6%) with approximately 30.2% African-American and the remaining 4.3% of the population made up of other races with Hispanic being the highest percentage (2.3%).Sylacauga has a mix of service industry, manufacturing and retail business.
The religious orientations are varied, including the following houses of worship: Assembly of God, Baptist, Catholic, Church of Christ, Church of God, Jehovah's Witnesses, Methodist, Pentecostal, and Presbyterian.
